My dear, dear blog readers. Never did I expect the response that I got from my bitch fest post about my feet. Quite passionate about the subject, aren't y'all?! I have learned my lesson to keep my mouth shut and keyboard silent when it comes to pregnancy moans and groans! No matter what the comments were, I enjoyed reading them and seeing what everyone had to say. To that end, I thought I would try to elicit more comments from you.
So I'm going to ask for your advice. If you are a mother, hit me with your best motherly wisdom. I'm about to undertake a newborn and a (soon to be) four year old! Tell me something that I don't know and will help me enormously. If you are not a mother, lay down some real sage advice that may help me in life in general. I'm thinking along the lines of 'don't eat yellow snow'. Even if it doesn't help me in life, at least it will make me laugh!
Here's some of my own: 'Be particular' (which is good for things that range from what you are going to eat next to choosing a husband) and 'They make more of 'em every day' (in regards to breaking something, etc) - from The Sweet Potato Queens Book of Love.
Go.

Read "The Happiest Baby on the Block". It SAVED me with Faith, and helped me calm her down.(They have a DVD also if you don't have time to read.) Make extra dinners now and put them in the freezer! Also, and this is something I used to tell my patients, when Ella comes to visit you in the hospital for the first time after Ashley is born, be sure that someone other than you is holding the baby. Ella needs to be able to hug her Mama right away and be assured in that way that the new baby hasn't replaced her. (There is a long psychological reason/study for this, but I will spare you the details!) Good luck, Megs. You can do it!
Karen makes good sense......in my day children were not allowed in the hospital and no one was in the room when babies were brought to you........Frankly, I never read any books on raising children and just went by instinct...........I thought I tried to discipline (3 boys) on the spot and at the time it was needed...........by the time "sweet, adorable, well behaved" girl came along......she just had to fall in line, I guess...ergo, no advice from here.
From a Mother of two...and the words of Jenny "Run, Megan, Run". But if that's to late, enjoy them and love the dickens out of them. Everything will fall into place.
What can I say? I'm struggling right along. I think you'll have it easier cause of the 4 year difference in ages. Mine are 26 months apart and it is difficult at times because they love each other so much that they can't leave each other alone. Wait a minute...I'm supposed to be giving advice not having my own gripe session.
They say to accept all the help that is offered. DO IT!!! I always declined because I didn't want to put people out etc. Bringing that beautiful bundle home increases your workload exponentially. Anything you can get help with from friends, David and your Mom and Marisa DO IT!
There it is: my sage advice. Good luck and I can't wait to see baby pictures!
Sage advice from a non-mother:
Martinis are like breasts. One is not enough, and three are too many.
Hang in there Megan! We are thinking of you!
