K.O.

Most evenings when I head away from the daily grind I head toward they gym to work out. My gym isn't like most other gyms with a plethora of exercise machines and racquetball courts. It's a boxing gym. I have been boxing for over 2 years and I love it.

I take the adult fitness class in the evening and while we do other 'work out' things, boxing is the mainstay. It is a phenomenal work out and a great stress reliever! (Don't worry! Our class doesn't spar, we just hit the heavy bags. There are people training there who do spar, but I'm too much of a weenie for that... and too vain!)

I have learned the proper names and execution of the 8 punches and the right stance for pulling them off. Also, I know how to defend, block and counter punches coming at me. There is no 'hitting like a girl' going on at K.O.! I think that's pretty damn cool! David thinks it's cool too but I must be somewhat scary because he won't let me hit him (I've asked!). And I don't think he's too keen on making me angry, either :).

K.O. uses red and black as a color theme (like Title) so of course that goes over well with this Bulldog fan! Here's a shot of one of our workout rooms:

and the owner/trainer Lorissa (who is pretty bad ass herself):

Pregnancy has altered my workouts slightly but nothing too drastic so baby M is learning all of the moves too! Maybe she will come out swinging? Sometimes I would swear that she is practicing already...

Hey Miss K.O.! Do you give that hanging bag/ball thing in the forefront of the pic a work out? That looks that would be fun to me! Do you imagine that the bags are people you're p.o.'d at and sock 'em until you feel better? I like the colors too and think that would be THE only place for consideration! ha ha

I try to hit the speed bag like you're supposed to but tend to fail miserably! I can do it at about 1/3 speed. Or maybe 1/4!

Oh, and yes, the bags have taken on an image every now and then!

Megs, okay, we've established that I am your crazy neurotic friend. Please make sure your doc is okay with you boxing. My maternal fetal medicine specialist told me it was off limits(Something about increased abdominal pressure putting strain on the cervix, preterm labor, yada yada yada.) Of course, my pregnancy was complicated, and everyone is different. But be careful, okay? I worry about my boxing buddy! Love ya!

Girl! I am right there with you -- I go to an LA Fitness gym, but I don't deal with all of the exercise equipment they do have, I just go for the Club Boxing and Kickboxing classes! They are a little more choreographed and less "authentic" than perhaps I'd like, like what you have available. But, it's still so awesome to be able to kick, hit and punch the bags! It's a great stress reliever and I was doing it regularly throughout my pregnancy with Dellaina, as well. I did modify things as I needed to (don't jump as much for jumping jacks, etc. keep my feet planted, if something hurts or twists too much, don't use full power or do a different punch) and I wore a heart monitor to keep an eye on my heart rate. Because I'd been doing it regularly before getting pregnant, my doctor was completely fine and even encouraged keeping up the exercise routine. I'm not quite as consistent this time around and don't wear my heart monitor, but still feel confident the exercise is very helpful - in my mood, body, strengthening muscles we'll need in labor and on the scales! Everyone is different (and every pregnancy) and it's always a good idea to check with your doctor, but I say Way to Go! I gotta know -- do you make noise/yell when you punch?!

Megan - very cool! I imagine that boxing helps you get out all the frustrations of the day! (I should hang a punching bag in my office!)
